We have all been in a situation where you have thrown a dart that blocks the double your aiming at or maybe you are left with 100 and 1 dart in hand but the T20 is blocked.

Today that happened to me, so I decided to put a few darts around the board as blockers. I blocked D16, T20 and the bull then proceeded to practice.

My question is how many people here practice shooting around another dart? Also what is your mentality when that happens? Do you think [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] it and try to force a dart through or do you calmly move around the oche?

Do you ever practice with a blocker in the board?

I never move on the oche, but then the way i play my first dart is more of a guide for me anyway. If i throw low and block the bed I aim for the flight, if i throw high I aim for the barrel. Hitting blocked beds is probably my strongest attribute in this game.

Good topic Bigshow. I do not purposely practice with a blocker, but when it happens I use it. Most of the time I find that I can get through and a lot of the time the blocking dart helps the next one slide in. I usually try to minimize my movement on the line. I'll move as a way to reset after throwing a bad dart.

I will move if its a double to go out. If just scoring will do a cover shot. I will if really necessary shoot at the barrel for a kiss off.

I've always moved across the oche and try to use the offending dart as a guide Smile

I will only move if it is a double that I have blocked. I sometimes practice with blockers but not on a regular basis.

Never even occured to me to practice this but I use to just do the censored it thing and hammer through.

Only in the last few months have I notice myself moving around if it is blocking left or right and it is working a treat for me once i got my head around throwing across the target but as said above the blocker becomes a stopper .but I dont move if I have to go over the top I just aim higher and throw softer.

I was never keen on moving around the oche but recently I've been trying to incorporate it into my game as supposed to just powering through. I'm still undecided on which I'd prefer though.

I often practice with 6 darts anyway so the beds are often blocked by other darts. I am comfortable to move to where I can get the clearest view of the target I am aiming at, the only time i struggle as a flighter is when the flights are blocking the d20 as there is no where to go to get a better view so then I float one over the top & hope for the best. Moving can be difficult as all your angles, power and trajectory have to be re thought and calculated so not an easy decision.

I dont practice shooting round darts, if it is blocking the bed I just walk up to the board and bend it to the side then take my shot. Laughing

I had a mental block when I first started playing about putting my darts too close together. Sounds stupid I know, but I HATE having a dart kick off of a flight and into the wrong bed or onto the floor.

So I played a little mental game on T20. I'd throw darts until I hit a T20. And I'd leave it there, even if it blocked the entire bed. And I just kept throwing my remaining darts until I had 3 in the bed.

So, yes, I practiced with blocked beds. And found that for me, moving around the oche worked best when I "had" to put all three in.

But like Larry said, now I'll just shoot a cover unless it's for a double out, or something like closing a number in Cricket.
