storm points Empty
PostSubject: storm points    storm points EmptyFri Sep 14, 2012 4:07 am

i see a lot of people post pics on here and other forums of there darts with target storm points fitted and ive said it before and
ill say it again they are the ugliest point ive either seen. ive tried them once with a set of mark walsh darts and they didnt go well.

put normall points in and they went like a dream . my point is how many top pros use these ?? the only time i have ever seen them
was mark walsh in the grand slam last year. and i cant think of anyone else who uses them.

few questions

1. do they improve your game

2. why so expensive

3. how do they hold up over a long period of time

imo a waste of money but would like to no a little more about them

Colin Lloyd uses them as well. I think.

Don't see how points can make much of a difference.

But I think they give the dart a more tapered look.

Never used them myself.

They are nice to have on a tapered dart like the sigmas. They help alot with deflections and save your flights from getting torn up. I like them but only use them on my tapered darts, that flat spot tears up flights

As for improving your game can't say that they do but they do help me a lot because I grip my dart with 1 finger on the point so I use the finger grip storms. The price I don't think they are that much more than other points maybe a little?? But as for durability they are unbelieveable I've had a set in my Winmau Testaments for about 3 years now and they still stick in the board just like when they were new and have yet to break one, plus they have saved me tons of $$$$$ on flights as it takes me about 2-3 months to ruin a set now where as before I would go through a set every night at leagues. IMO they are the best thing on the market!!

Storm points. Target once sent me a set of darts before they brought out the 'Perfect Storms' that tapered down to meet with the storm points. Interesting idea - later to be released as the first perfect storm design I believe. However, for me, I use the lip or ledge formed where the point meets the barrel to rest on my finger when I throw - so these darts with no noticable difference where the back of the point met the storm point felt quite odd. Also - quite the opposite to what some people think - I personally believe that the ring gripped points do not hold the dartboard as well as ormal points due to there being less surface area on the side of the point touching the sisal. It certainly feels to me like they are not gripping the board as well. Gripped points are for people who use the point as part of their grip - not for increasing grip to the board.

I feel they do improve my and also save my flights.

i'm going to take a stab at why pro's don't use them.

1. Pro's play with equipment exclusively provided by their sponsor, and do not use competitors equipment.

2.Lot's of pro's use tridents though, but they are not competitors with the dart manufacturers. They accomplish the same thing that storm points do.

3.Older pro's are probably reluctant to adapt with new technology. Why mess with a winning formula?

I have storm points on one of my sets of customs - mainly because I haven't bothered to change them back lol. They are ok, but they don't really add anything to my game.

I like the normal gold points from A180 if I'm using gold darts, otherwise I'll use whatever the darts come with on any other colour arrows. If I ever need to change them I'll just use plain silver 26mm points.

Aren't they made by Red Dragon/Winmau?

If you are looking for points that grip the board you need gripper points the storms are finger grip points the rings are where your finger goes not all the way down the point. I throw a fairly hard dart and my finger grip points dont ever come near going into the board. Now I ruff up the ends with sandpaper and that helps alot towards sticking in the board without ruining the board itself.

Been using storm points for a while now, makes my flights last a good bit longer and due to the way i grip the dart, it rests nicely on my finger and feels more comfortable than a normal point Smile

Since I started using storms about a year ago I've had them in all my match darts, guess its personal preference as I can throw my back-up sets, that have diamond points in, just as well (or bad depending how I am playing).

Certainly doesn't make me play any better, and I also use the finger grips as I like to rest the groove on my middle finger when throwing, however I will agree 100% with the guys, the storm point definately give you more life from your flights and also, touch wood, I have yet to have a dart bounce off the flight like they do sometimes when the flat part at the front of the barrel hits the flight full on.

I love them! the way they look & feel and they suit my throw as I rest my finger on the point so they give me more control. I agree with everyone else re the deflections too they just slide down the flights. They last a long time & are very durable. They are slightly more expensive but I would not go back to ordinary points now. It is nice now they have brought them out in different colours too.

I use them as well, mainly for the finger grip as I too place a finger on the point. Also as has been mentioned it saves me having to use tridents as well.

Nah, trident180 is their own company. Red Dragon buys and sells them wholesale.

Could it be that these points give some players a little bit of a psychological boost. No real performance benefit, but in their minds they think they are getting a benefit, which in turn would boost their confidence and self belief.

Just my thoughts.

Think a few people have damaged there Hankey darts trying to fit them so be careful, there was a guy on twitter I think, and I think it was Fox who knows someone too. Have seen some Hankeys with them on though and looks fine, a bit like the West darts I have:
