Short Darts VS Longer Darts Empty
PostSubject: Short Darts VS Longer Darts   Short Darts VS Longer Darts EmptySun Apr 29, 2012 1:05 am

I'm use to throwing between 50mm and 53 mm. I know that some of these buggers like Phase 6's are quite a bit shorter (gonna try them after season). A big difference for me . Maybe Oche can comment on this as he has stated he has switched from Phase 2's to Phase 6's I believe. Any comments on this is much appreciated members. Like couldn't get on with shorter or got on better, or ya hands too big , stuff like that.
Thanks Larry

I used to play using the Phase 1 darts. Really had a hard time since my darts landed severely pointing down. Also, I tend to hold the dart just behind the center of gravity, using a pencil type grip, had trouble controlling the wobble. I switched to the Silica Apollos (that I planned to use before using my Phase 5's, as a cheaper alternative), that are about 42mm and practiced using them. The short dart fit my grip and I was able throw better with less wobble and the darts landing pointed upwards or parallel to the ground.

I tend to grip near the front of the dart, and the Target Sprints at 53mm are the longest darts I used, they worked better with a short stem though.

I have used the short Lowe type barrel which is usually below 40mm, but I think my preferred length of barrel is around 48mm.

Sure Larry. I've been intending to write a review on the Phase 6's. I wanted to get a few weeks in with them first with a couple matches and some flight school to be fair to the darts. My biggest concern about them WAS the difference in length and even barrel size. At first, I tried to modify my normal grip (a 3 finger), but I didn't like the loss of control I felt. I worked on adjusting my normal grip to the different barrel and found a stable fit that immediately gave me better results. I put my thumb and middle finger on opposite sides of the barrel grip (this is just behind the center of the dart's gravity). My index finger is on the rings at the base of the Phase 5 stems (the titanium piece) and my ring finger is at the front of the nose cone. That titanium piece of the Phase 5 stems looks and acts like an extension of the barrel and makes it seem longer. This is so close to my grip with the Phase 2's and the weights are virtually the same that I can still pick up my Phase 2's and with a couple rounds of warm up, I can throw them just as well as before. This is very different than my other experience in trying to throw a significantly shorter barrel. I have a set of Hammerhead GT's and I never could get use to them. I have some thoughts on what I believe are improvements in the Phase 6's over the Phase 2's, but I'll save those for my official review.
