Knurling dose not give you as much grip as a smooth dart but a ringed dart gives you the best of both worlds. the only thing better would be a copper tungsten smoothey IMO.

I was rubbing my finger VERY lightly over the knurled bit of my dary and then the smooth bit and the smooth bit gave me more STICK, Then I rubbed the same finger over the ringed unknurled bit and got stick and grip. This leads me to belive that a ringed dart gives the best of both worlds without spinning or pulling darts with the odd bad release. The exeption to the rule being the shark or wide spaced ring or maybe the new carrera's or micro grip.

I know I know jd has been bleeding from the ____ about this but I think that a small ringed of a copper tungsten woukd be the better choice.

What do you nutz think?

I found the knurled thortons to be very slippy darts, but if you have knurling that is ringed too it is fine

And thanks for having me as your idiot, at least I belong Shocked

Knurling can easily wear down. You're putting the same force on the darts, but knurled darts have so much more surface area for the same length that you wear down the "peaks" of the knurl.
I throw a ringed dart that I recently had a new set made to match. I've had trouble throwing the new ones because the grooves are so new and sharp. The edge will catch randomly on a finger. I've thrown my main darts for 13 years now.
When it comes to smooth darts, they can vary greatly. Some have special coatings, some have wear from smacking against each other over and over, and I've seen some (for whatever reason) that looked polished. I threw a set one time that was so slick it felt like i ran my hand through butter before I threw. No

Shark (razor ) grip for me and even these go from level 5 to level 4 with lots of use. I can deal with level 4 but nothing less as I hold the dart lightly.

As long as it's got a pointy bit on one end and a flight on the other then it's all good. Copper tungsten does have a nice feel to it though.

Smooth= more surface area to grip.

Therefore the grippiest dart you can buy.

Most modern darts are 80-95% tungsten so if you are after copper tungsten just define your search to copper tungsten.
There's a few sellers on eBay (stiletto) and McCoy's have a few designs over at Puredarts.co.uk:

Jamie the hankeys are nickle tungsten.
Copper tungsten start of pinkish and go a very dark grey colour over time, they react with the sweat on ones fingers and create very tiny pits on the surface area (need magnify glass to just see them) that is why they are still pink in the thread because it has not been touched by our fingers and has been sealed from the moisture in the air by the stem.

You can do a process in steel called pickeling using acids or brown vinegar or even coke that creates these pits. I tryed it with hydrocloric acid on a cheap set of nickel T darts only to find out later that NT darts are inmpervious to HC acid. but the tips (that went shiney over time) went black and got the small pits in them and now grip the board like stuff to a blanket. There is chemicals that do eat into tungsten (been googling) and I think that caustic soda (draino) eats it too. I will try draino on them one day just to satisfy my curiosity then see if they can kill a cat.

Unfortunatly most of the Cu tungsten darts are 80% I think this mix gives you the best pitting effect but that makes the barrels rather thick because for some reason manufactures seem to refuse to make a longer slimer barrel (bastards). Just have to go custom.

Here is some links to some Cu Tg darts.

On this page it is all the darts that have that brassy coulor that are Cu Tg darts the silver ones are nickle tungsten and I think Jamie will be a victim of the 17g er Laughing go on jamie you know you want them!!!
https://www.deadeyedarts.com/steeldarts.asp?dart=80%25+Tungsten&type=Stiletto+Darts

I missed these ones. A 26g er 54mm long but 7.1mm thick Me Thinking almost.

And of course we have the Mcoy's which are some of the best value for money and quality on the market IMO.

If anyone has any more links to othe Cu T darts I would appreciate it http://i111.photobuc
