Gonna open up a can of worms here. Lots of people say have a rounded end to your points. Not for me ! I keep my darts sharp and scuffed before every match. Look when new they not rounded right and no problems sticking right hmmmm. Now scuffing to me is part of me prep for a match. I carry a piece of emory cloth and just go round and a round the end a few times. I check me points for sharpness and if rounded I sharpen a bit. No not like a needle but sharp. Went one season without a bounce out and I have verrry few bounce outs. In fact have won games in a critical point of the game when opponent had a bounce out (then he scuffed, too late then). So thats me way of doing it and once again my opinion and 2 cents worth.

Well I had to scuff mine up yesterday as they kept falling out the board, they were the black points which are believe is some kind of coating but had worn off, was sick of picking em up off the floor. A quick scuff and they stuck like glue!

i hone my point slighty after a bounce out or if i tag the wire good. i like them smooth somewhat sharp but otherwise i dont fuss about them. i do however roll them often make sure their balanced.

I scuff before matches, but not at home. I have a good quality board and want to keep it that way.
We usually play on wire/staple setups for league so I tend to keep the point more rounded as it seems to reduce bounce outs (and spearing my poor flights to death). Unfortunately, the manufacturer of my board recommends a sharp point to avoid "overcompression" of the sisal so I may be doing myself a disservice anyway.
Hard to know what's true about this really. All I can say is that when I slightly round it, I get fewer bounceouts noticeably on the crap boards for league, so I'm going to keep it up until more evidence is in.

I like to scuff the tips. Not because I'm looking for a sharp point but I feel like it puts burrs on the tip and it helps grab the board better.
Regardless of whether or not it's true, it makes me feel better and I'll take whatever positive motivation I can get.

I always use the emory stuff just before matches. my darts tend to randomly fall out sometimes, especially on low quality or heavily damaged dart boards.
I don't use it much during practice, even though it does get annoying when hitting two treble 20's before the last dart knocks them all out.
I'm actually thinking of re-pointing them, I just need to find a place that does it.

I throw 26g fairly direct and hard, so I don't have fallouts, but I do believe some roughness helps grip the board. Again, with a heavy dart I don't need a real sharp point. I do think too fine a point will cut into a blade and bounce out. My phase 2s came with a nice rounded tip and I've always tried to keep that shape. The needle points actually turned me off on my laser darts and hammerheads.

I do neither, only time I use my sharpener is to clean off any residue after a bounce out off a wire.

Do they wear out or something? I can see if you roughened them before every match you might eventually wear them down to a nub, but I wouldn't have any idea how long it would take.
