Latinum coating Empty
PostSubject: Latinum coating   Latinum coating EmptyWed Feb 20, 2013 9:20 pm

I won an auction for some Phil Taylor phase 1 darts. I have reverted back to using my purists and wanted a backup set. Anyway, I got them at a steal and they arrived today. Only problem is that they appear to have the Unicorn Latinum coating.

They have been delivered to my office and I don't have a board there so I can't throw them, but my initial reaction is that they feel very slippy/greasy.

Does anybody have any experience using Latinum coated darts, and on top of that has anybody tried to remove the coating?

I am presuming that cannot be removed with acetone as paint can be from barrels, and it would need something more abrasive?

They are awful I think, they chip badly and the coating comes off in flakes.

You would need something like one of those wire things on a drill to remove the coating. But I am not sure if they are a brass dart as I have some where the coating has worn and it looks a bit like brass to me, but could be some undercoat they stick to the tungsten? I dunno

I had a set of what I think were John Lowe's 24 grams in latinum. I hated them so much that I mailed them back to Unicorn for an exchange, which they did. I didn't like the feel of them at all, thought they were horrible.

I must be an exception to the rule then, I had a set of Latinum darts and they felt fine to me, granted they are shiny and smooth but I honestly didnt find any issues with them regarding grip - also have a feeling its them Mac gave away, Barry Twomlow ones. No
