| This guy sent me a video response to my Darts Caddy review, looks like he has invented this new board, like a soft tip but bristle. Looks expensive though but very neat: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| I played in a tournament in Wichita one time and they had electronic bristle boards. They worked better than I expected but didn't really care for them. They work like a soft tip machine where bounce outs will count on the segment the dart hits. They would back up the machine and take away the score- just a pain and takes too much time! Worst thing of all you have to put in $.75 for each game. They were round wire boards- no thanks! |

Well this is all new to me, but, taking Spat's experience into account.....they are not for me! |

| I wonder if a robin hood would score on one of these boards? I know that in soft tip darts, a bounce out scores, whereas in steeltip it does not. I just wondered if this board would recognise the impact, and the area and then score accordingly. If so, would the impact as caused by a dart sticking into the back of another register and score on the board. Not important but I was just wondering! |

| yes it does score a robin hood -again you have to back the board up and take away the score. The segments are very sensitive |

| Don't know if it would be for me or not seems like it could be a bit of extra hassle having to back up scores etc. Would still like to give one a try and go in with an open mind but I think i'll stick with the old fashioned chalk and grey cells for now |

| How often do you have to replace the board?

| We had a couple things like that in America several years ago that never took off. Seems like companies were trying desperately to think of a way to charge steel tip players per game. This pic is from 2007. There was an idea like this even further back that used lasers to score on a steel tip board. All these ideas went away as quick as they showed up. | I see why they went away -but they still have them in some of the pubs in Wichita. The funny thing is the people there seemed to like them! They are just a way to get money -that's how soft tip came along in the U.S. pubs |

| Might be the same one?
But the patent is 2009 below.
electronic bristle dartboard United States Patent No. 7,624,988 (December 1, 2009)
Inventor: Chia-Mu Shao
Abstract: An electronic dart game includes a dart and a dartboard provided with a frame and a main body for being shot by the dart. The dart game can be scored automatically for being provided a plurality of inductance coils on the frame and connected to a electronic scoring means. A point or a slender shaft of the dart is magnetized so that an electronic signal can be generated while the dart is shot to go through the inductance coils in accordance with the Lenz's law. Therefore, the chances for erroneous signal to occur are very slim. As the main body is designed directly to the frame, the dartboard has a stable one-piece surface, thus a player will have a similar satisfactory sensation as shooting onto a classical one-piece dartboard.

| even in that description it is not clear if a dart that makes contact then falls or bounces out removes its score automatically, if it does then it must be better than previous ones. |

| I found what I was looking for. This pic was taken from a 1991 Bullseye News magazine. 22 years ago!!!! I played on this device in Portland Maine at a vending company called Skillful Vending. At the time they wanted over $400 for this. This was back in 1995 or so. Just shows that the idea has been around for a VERY LONG time. Still hasn't caught on. | I think I seen one in an 80's magazine but it was not very sophisticated, will have to try to find it, but there must be something new about this one but I cant understand the guy in the vid so will never know.
If its a hassle to replace the board then it wont catch on. |
