I've seen this question asked a few times on different darting forums. "Will soft tips stick into a bristle board?" The short answer is "YES" I play with a very light dart and no matter how new or how hard a board is, I've never had any problems using a soft tip on a bristle board. However, sometimes when I'm using a soft tip on my Blade 4 I'll get a clean bounce out from the middle of the bed. This happens because my points have become too smooth. Sort of like a brand new silver steel tip point. Ya know how they just fall out sometimes? Well this happens with soft tip points as well. Just do the same thing as you would a steel tip. Scuff the point with sandpaper or an emery board. You'll have to do it more often using soft tips though because the sisal acts like sandpaper almost. It very gradually wears the points down to a sharp, smooth surface.

But I can play for hours some times with little to no bounce outs. As long as you keep the points scuffed you should experience the same thing. Granted, I've never tried this with a dart heavier then 18 grams so I'm not sure of the results you might have there.

Another little bonus about using soft tips on a bristle board... the points never damage the wires. Ever. Here is an old pic of my Blade 4 after playing on it for 40 days with Hard Lip Points. Here is a current video of 14.3 gram darts entering the bullseye area. As you can see they stick with no problems. And believe me, my bullseye is battered to death!!!

So in conclusion... do soft tip points work well. Yes. But be mindful to always keep the points scuffed up for maximum results.

i was playing with soft tips for a while with no problems at all then i got a new blade 4 and the darts just bounced off. i was only getting like 1 out of every 6 darts to go into the board . maybe the board i got was packed a bit denser than normal . i'm not sure ? i was using 20g rocket ronnies and target lip points . i didn't scuff the points though , but that is just to make sure they stay in the board ? mine weren't even going in the board at all. gonna go dig out my soft tips just now to see if now the board has loosened up a bit they will go in

it's better now , but still maybe get a fair few that wouldn't even go in the board .

I'm thinking that maybe the heavier darts hit the board a bit harder and just ricochet back out? What kind of points are you using?

yeah maybe. i'm using target lip points . not tried this time round ,but have also used target tufflex both worked fine in my winmau round wire and one80 dot trainer .

Downside: opens up the board to moisture damage quicker. If you live in a humid climate I would not advise

You brought up a good point though. I wonder if 6 grams makes that much of a difference when using soft tips?

you can but its not as good as steel tips, especially on a hard Bulls board.

i have 15 gram ones kicking about somewhere . i'll try and find them and try them out and see if the lighter ones go in rather than bounce off

I was warming up this morn before the 2nd day of my team tournament and I thought I would chuck on some soft tips and throw a few.

Only had 1 come out the board and it fell out after another dart hit near it. I was tempted to use them today, but after that 1 fell out, I quickly changed back to my conversion points.
