PostSubject: Phil Taylor Phase 6 25g   Phil Taylor Phase 6 25g EmptyWed Feb 15, 2012 6:48 am

After wanting a set for a while and then seeing a post on here about a good deal on them I decided to try a set. I ordered them from Pure darts which on a side point was a very good idea as they came the next day and at £33 for 97% Tungsten darts was a steal as far as I am concerned. Here is what they look like with medium cosmos stems and kites:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I usually throw with a straight barrel and grip at the front, so for me this would be a change in barrel shape and grip position:

The grip is similar to the traditional hero/purist, but if you look carefully this is slightly different and is known as power plus grip. I would say that it is a level 4.

I am very happy with these darts and within minutes found that they fly very well. Normally my darts land in the board flight down, but with these they land flight up, but they seem to go where I want them to, so I'm not too concerned. I would say that if I had to think of a negative it would be that they are only available in 25g, but that suits me to be honest. They also come with the cheap micro case, no flights and stems so short that they are useless, but I have my own setup so for me it is not an issue, I accept that it could be for a first timer though!

All in all I would give them a 9/10 and would highly recommend.

No 180s yet but I have only had 10 minutes to practice and am going to have a meal with my wife for Valentines shortly, so practice may have to wait until tomorrow. Here's one of about 5 140s though:

Wow Danny nice darts. That must be a pretty big adjustment for you going from a straight barrel and gripping at the front? Also Pure Darts are amazing especially for US shipping times

That's what I thought, but to be honest they felt really comfortable. I think the grip pattern helped because I have thrown with Phase 1 and 2 purists for years!

Always liked the darts but scared of not being able to adjust to shape or gripping that far back. I'm sure in time I would get it. Maybe in the offseason Very Happy

Nice Danny! I'm very tempted to try these myself lol!

I too tend to grip my darts at the front and had to adjust with the Hamiltons, however I'm finding it hard to keep the grip consistent.

When I get it right they fly great but its because they are centrally weighted it feels like I am not controlling the dart properly.

Hi Danny.....my darts too....probably my post you read on here....I bought two sets they are so good. Darts attack got them in specially for me and sold me them at £35. Super dart mate.....can't see me changing for a very long time....these are the darts for me. Hit more 180s with them, than any other dart although it took me a while to get used to em

They do look like nice darts, but a bit too heavy for me I reckon. If Pure Darts still have them at the same price at the end of the month though I may treat myself to a set.

I should really have waited til the end of the month, but hey that's what my credit card is for!

And Darren, I know what you mean about gripping consistently, but I think it would be easier with these as the grip area forces you to grip the same place (if that makes sense).

I'm intrigued. Would love to get a hold of set, since I grip the dart right behind its center of gravity.

They are lovely looking dart, i'd be tempted if they were a bit lighter, 25g is just too heavy for me. The grip is pretty much exactly where I grip my darts but I reckon the length of the barrel would affect me. Nice looking darts all the same, hope they go well for ya danny.

PostSubject: Re: Phil Taylor Phase 6 25g   Phil Taylor Phase 6 25g EmptyThu May 03, 2012 7:37 am

I'd like to tag on my 2 cents about these. I've been practicing with them for 3 weeks now and played two league matches with them. First, very nice reviews by dannyd180 an bovrilheid and I concur with their assessments. Before these I've thrown Phase 2 Purists for several years. I too was concerned about the adjustment from the very long, straight, thin barrels to these much shorter, wider, torpedo shaped barrels. It took a bit of fine-tuning my Phase 2 grip which is 3 fingers all on the barrel and thumb on center of gravity. Or mostly on center anyway. I think I would have some small variations with the Phase 2's and their huge length of identical grip. With the Phase 6's, there is a small section of grip not much wider than my thumb and I know my thumb is in the same place every time. The location of this is just behind the barrel's center of gravity giving a slight forward-weighted feel, but not as much as a typical forward-weighted dart. At 25.5g the Phase 6's actually feel heavier than the 26g Phase 2's because the weight is concentrated in the short barrel and evenly spread out in the long barrel. With this slight weight shift, I feel I have great control over the barrel and can 'place' the dart in the board. Trident cones make a nice finish to the tapered nose. I got the Phase 5 slikstik stems and their titanium base fits seamlessly. They make the barrels look and feel longer, which I think helped my transition from the longer Phase 2's. They're a masterfully designed and engineered dart that I feel offer some advantages over my beloved Phase 2's. The only disappointment I've had with them so far has been the wearing of the color. I got them in black and they're looking a bit nicked up already. I don't know about the other colors, but can only presume they would be the same. Small problem really and I give the Phase 6's a 9.8/10.

I can't wait to get my ordered sets after the missus already gave me the budget to get them. Very Happy

I hope this is the perfect dart for me since I passed on getting the Chisnalls (which are lovely looking darts) for the Phase 6.

Update: My darts finally arrived. I fitted them with Target medium blue nylon stems, punched Rhino standard flights and Trident 180s. I love the grip, as it's just right for me, as I do hold the darts behind the center of gravity. Had occasions when the dart dropped on my wooden floor but the scratches are very minimal, probably due to the 97% tungsten content. Would probably shift to pear flights in the future, but the transparent blue Rhino standard flights look really fine and are more stable. lol!

Do you find them quite thick?
Does it close off the T20 bed easily?

Don't have these anymore, but they are a lovely dart, and they are not as thick as you would imagine. They are no thicker than the Phase 5, and whilst I had them I hit quite a few 180's with them. As far as closing off the treble, depends how you group them, but there is easily enough room in a treble for three of these, and you don't need more room than that!
