PostSubject: throwing left   throwing left EmptyTue Dec 11, 2012 11:03 am

Was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what I should look for in my throw that would make most of my throws go left of where I am aiming.
If I am aiming at the 20 its either dead on or 5 or 12 or 12,12,5 or 20,20, 12 ect
same with 18 but hitting 1 or 20.
19 hitting mostly 7's
I am left handed, just curious if maybe dropping shoulder , twisting wrist ect could be a cause of this that I can focus on during practice. When I am throwing they dont feel any different, but they sure look different.
On the plus side I hit my first ever 180 aiming at 18 the other day.

Check your alignment to your target. Also have your eyes checked, are you left or right eye dominate ? Also I find that when I wander its due to lack of focus! are you really looking at ya Target from the time your on the oche until u release the dart? I'm interested in what other members say about this .

throw left handed , right eye dominant
There must be a fine line between focusing and thinking to much at oche.

When I throw left, its usually my elbow moving in toward my body as I throwing. I am a right hander, so I dont know if that applies to you Shrek.

Practicing with friend who has played for years tonight. Sure enough everything consistently left of where I was aiming. After a few games he noticed I kept moving farther to the right of the center line. My thinking was to move right to compensate for my darts going left ,but they were still going left. He had me try moving left of center a little bit at a time and the darts actually started going to the right. Will try this out and see if it continues to work.

Have a look at your back foot. The body can make small adjustments by just moving your right foot a little.

If my darts stray left or right of where I am aiming I pivot on my front foot for fine adjustment. If I am way off I step left or right

Sounds to me buddy like you need to work on your action. Try checking where your throwing hand finishes up after your release. Pause at the top of your throw and see where your hand is pointing as you may find it is pointing at the 5 if this is the case you may need to adjust your release time as releasing to late will inevitably result in them going where you are aiming last. I don't have a straight arm when I throw but my follow through is straight. Some players have a naturally verticle arm which makes it a more naturally straight line between movement and release like Gary Anderson for instance. I'm at 75 degrees as opposed to 90 like his but still keep the straight line on follow through. Try it, feel it and let us know how you get on

I have the same trouble, I am sure it is not my body but the way I realese the dart, I have tried all positions on the oche and it still happens, I think on the release I must be deflecting the course of the dart somehow.

I think that because your brain makes automatic adjustments that moving too much on the oche will just get your brain to compensate for the move. On top of that I think it gets harder and harder to get back to the same spot for a consistent delivery.

I think big gun has it right on how to approach the mechanics of it. It also helps I think if you tell your arm what you want it to do.
