As a steel tipper who also plays a lot of soft tip I tend to put in quite a bit of practice in on the bulls.
But instead of just shooting at the bull for countless minutes I do something a bit different.
While playing I keep track of how many consecutive bulls (50 & 25) I hit in my head. Center counts as 2, semi counts 1.
Lets say I miss with the 1st dart. I then go to any double on the board. For me I usually take a swipe at double 20 with
my next 2 darts. Same goes with a missed bull on my 2nd dart. My 3rd will be at a double. Then I will have a fresh
start at the bulls with my next round.
I have 2 reasons as to why I do this. 1st, is to take focus off the bullseye area. Seems like I get tunnel vision by
staring at the bullseye for too long. Like if I was to just shoot bulls for 5 minutes, I'd be lazily looking at it after a
couple minutes. Then the misses start coming. By switching up with my 2nd and 3rd dart it allows my eyes to refocus
at a different target. That make sense?
The 2nd reason I do this is to just get practice on my doubles. Something I don't do often enough.
Also, don't get burnt out trying this. Just a few minutes should be enough each session. If you're really in the zone
then put in 10-15 minutes. A good goal would be hitting 10-12 consecutive bulls. That's 3-4 hat tricks in a row on a steel
tip board. Fairly difficult for even the best of players.
