Gearing up from canada Empty
PostSubject: Gearing up from canada   Gearing up from canada EmptyFri Jan 18, 2013 1:08 pm

Hello, I haven't played darts yet, but it's my brother's birthday soon and I want to get him a dartboard and darts(and I'll get one for me too!). So, the thing is I'm in Canada, and from searching the web, the boards sold from Canadian retailers seems ridiculously expansive. One of the least expensive I've found are sold at puredarts.co.uk, but I'm afraid of getting hit by duties and brokerage fees like the ones UPS have when you order from the US.

So, I'd like to know where other Canadian players get there dartboards.

Hello and welcome to the forum mate. welcome

I think if you buy a board from the UK it could work out expensive with the shipping costs. I sent a board to someone in Canada and it was £30 for the shipping.

I know USMC80 bought a surround from Newitts and shipping was cheap but not sure if it will be as cheap for a board, you could try and see:

Hi Microtom, welcome to dartsnutz - I'm in Nova Scotia, not sure where you are but like getagrip (Darren) said, to buy a board from England, the price of shipping would outprice the board itself, so it wouldn't make sense to order from there. I guess it depends on where you are located but I found a decent quality board at Walmart (in Ottawa at the time). Canadian Tire also sells equipment (I saw a board there recently that wasn't staple free but overall wasn't too bad a board).

In my area, there are a few shops that supply good quality boards and darts - I paid $70 taxes in for a staple free top quality board (can't remember the brand). To me, this is probably the best deal I'm going to get and yes it is pricey but I can live with it. As far as the darts go, I saw a set in a shop that were going for $90 before taxes. I got the same set delivered from puredarts for $27. If you are going to order online, you can always go to the local shop and try some sets, then go to a180.co.uk or puredarts.co.uk. By the way, the shops around me are kind of flexible on their prices - they give discounts if you are in a league and also will accept offers below the listed price.

I've been ordering darts for a long time and over the years, recieved darts that weren't exactly what I thought they were going to be (length, width or look). It is a good idea to do your homework, make sure that if you want a barrel that is say 50 mm in length, when you go to the website, have a good look at the photos and descriptions. Also, before you order feel free to as any questions on here, we will be glad to help. More than likely, someone here may have had a certain set you are thinking about and might be able to describe the grip, how they throw etc etc.

Also if you check out Kijiji, a lot of people put boards on there which are in excellent condition.

Good luck and feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

Ok so today I recieved a set of darts I bought last week from puredarts.co.uk. They marked the item value as 15£, which is about 24$cad, and it passed the border without customs fees(things over 20$ usually have fees).

So that's nice, the shipping cost was 3£ which is very acceptable, and puredarts sent me a free gift including 6 sets of flight and 6 sets of shafts with rings. I bought a second one today.

As for the boards, what I've found from canada is that costco has the least expensive one, a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and that price include free shipping(I think). Of course that exclude Quebec taxes which are 13%. However, purchasing from costco requires a membership which I don't have.

Canadian tired has a suppabull for 70$cad. I assume all sisal boards have a relatively similar quality and play life, but this suppabull(which isn't even the second generation like puredarts sells) has pretty bing wirings.

So the second best place to buy from what I've found is from puredarts.co.uk, they have a 20£ shipping cost for 1 board and £30 for two boards.
I think I'd get the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which they sell for 20£. That's 40£ total for one board, or 63$cad.

If it passes the borded without having custom fees, it'll be cheaper then the blade 4 from costco. Earlier today I sent an email to puredart to ask them if the can mark the shipment with a 12£ value or mark it as a gift(in which case I'd buy two at once to get the shipping discount of having two boards sent at once). If they can't lower the value, I think I'll still buy them from puredarts, buy the two at once and hope for the best.

Just read Nucky's post. Sounds like you're already in good hands. Very Happy

like Nucky said.....check Canadian Tire, they carry decent boards there....only thing is they are not razor wire boards....same goes with Wally World. But best price for your money would be them two places!
I got mine(DMI Bandit)on Hayneedle.com.....paid $89 for it.......than two weeks later fed ex sent me a bill for $20....custom fees...lol. I will make a call to a guy I know, he distributes Unicorn boards!!! Where do you live ????

Thx McKinnis. I live in Quebec. Wallmart got one at a good price and free shipping. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Costco, canadian tire and wallmart all have a single board to sell... That's quite a lack of diversity. Of course they're not specialized, but still. I think I'll get the wallmart one, but I wish I had access to one that doesn't have round wiring for a price that is acceptable.
