Black Widow Shaft Problems. Empty
PostSubject: Black Widow Shaft Problems.   Black Widow Shaft Problems. EmptyWed Sep 19, 2012 1:36 am

The stem keeps popping off my wife's black widows. Just one dart, and yes they are movable point. Can this be fixed or is that dart no good? I emailed laserdarts but they have yet to reply.

Any suggestions?

hmmm the movable point has nothing to do with with the stem popping off. Sounds like a stripped barrel end to me. Take and wrap the stem threads with plummers tape that may help.

the stem popping off might actually on widows, Widows movable points are different than bottlesen points as in the point actually seats against the stem threads. Just make sure you only use nylon stems, because if you use aluminum the constant banging of the point but on the shaft will strip them. Metal shafts also void the widow warrenty, but if I remember right widows do have a SUPER LONG warranty. Might be worth giving them a call Smile

Well not sure if warranty applies to me as I got them on here second hand. I did send them an email though, so maybe they will have some advice.
My wife has been using plastic shafts but they were shipped to me with metal ones so again, I dont think warranty applies. Too bad they are otherwise a pretty nice set of darts!

Let's hope a bit of tape does the trick!!

You've probably already done this but have you tried swapping the stem to another of the barrels and see if the problem follows the stem? It may be bad threads on that one shaft and not the barrel. I had it happen on a nylon shaft once. They wouldn't hold well and it could pull it off without too much effort. I replaced the shaft and problem solved.

Tape worked for a few throws, but that was it. The only thing left to think of is to glue a shaft in place.

Sad to have such nice darts be unusable..

Rather than use super glue David, try red Loctite, it works like superglue but when you need to change the stems you can heat it up over a flame and it releases allowing you to change the stems without doing further damage.

Thats presuming you will be using alloy stems, obviously nylon will melt No

Like you say, its a great shame as they are great darts, good luck either way Good Luck

Hopefully the Barneys will ease the disappointment clink glasses

Oh OK nm.. was going to stick the Titaniums on, but then realized that would end up wrecking ALL of them, so
will be gluing on a cosmo shaft (bit bendy so think it may last)..so yes a plastic shaft!

Well we are kind of set to become the Barney family my wife and I. Would just be nice to have the widows as back up/option.
