i like my darts to lay down (like taylors and barneys) but just trying to find the right barrel to do the job

im trying taylors at the minute and they are going nice but i might end up going back to my peter wrights
barney phase 2s or give barneys new phase 3s a try

but 100% on setup of slim flights and medium shaft ( works a treat can hit 180s and 12 dart legs for fun )

any advice on barrels would be great or to hear from anyone else who likes the dart to lay down

I always thought it was the stems and flights that affected the lay of the barrel?

So if that the stems and flights you want to use then I would say the barrels weight is the next deciding factor?

Need something with some weight at the back lion bud. Maybe get some add a grams?

It's also your style of throw which can be affected by style of barrel

oh its deffo the weight grip you can lay a dart flat with any weight barrel but imo and through a bit of reasearch the best weight to lay the darts flat with are probs 23-26g

taylor 26g , barney 25g, mind you at harlow alex roy was laying them flat with 22g very nicerly but dean winstanley at the matchplay his were laying flat and standing up

i just find laying them down best for me with standard flight they seem to go very fast
and i dont feel 100% in controll of the barrel

forgot to mention i have to have a tappered nose on my darts that helps with the stacking lol

I'm going to combine what you all are saying. First two factors are the stem and flight as Grip said. Smaller flight, less lift on the back end. Longer stem (which acts as a lever), greater affect the flight has on the barrel. Like Fox said, gotta be tail heavy. As you said Lion, heavier darts, with a tail heavy throw, are better at achieving the result you want. Like USMC said, your style of throw has to be factored in to what barrel you choose. Barney throws standard flights, but he has a long barrel/stem combination. He's tall and most of his targets are relatively level with or below his release. He holds the front of the dart, putting most of the weight behind his grip. His heavy tail counters the lift of his stem/flight. Taylor holds the back of his dart, putting most of the weight in front of his grip. He's short and most of his targets are relatively level with or above his release. He releases that barrel pointed upward, countering that nose heavy grip. When he threw the Phase 2's he had standard flights and I think medium stems (?) which lifted the back of those long barrels. Now his Phase 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's ... are short. He doesn't need the lift and he uses short stems and small flights.

Well, overall the side-loaders are long, but the affective length between the barrel and the flight is equivalent to short stems. I threw his Phase 2s for years with medium stems and when I got the 6s to try, I expected it to take a big adjustment for me to throw them well, but to my surprise it's almost the same throw for me. In fact, I can switch between them now almost effortlessly.

Guess there is no easy answer other than trying some different barrel weights and lengths if your set on a particular stem flight combo.

Think the only dart iv ever had lay flat is chizzys with them cosmos I got from you lion, which btw, do you remember the length?

they were either medium 31mm or inbetween 28mm not 100 %

I've tried them heavy metal stems and they definitely help your darts to land tail end down. Only problem with them is one robin hood and they are only fit for the bin

i tried a set and they were to much if that makes sense

slim flight does the trick and a 25g barrell

after some reasearch its me who makes the dart lay flat ive gone back to a standard flight and there landing dead straight and working alot better
