Apex No. 2 Rubber Tip Box Label by markbrindza, on Flickr

I was lucky enough to find a box of very old suction cup Apex darts. These date back before the 1940's. I showed these to the current owner of Apex who's father started the business and he said he has never seen the box these darts came in let alone the Rubber Tip stamp that is on the label.

No I did not try them. The rubber cups look pretty brittle being so old. You can tell they were stored in an attic because some of the rubber edges are a melted on some.

Here is a board we think they were used on. The owner gave me this one. This board shows in a 1920 era advertisement that he has. The board is made of wood and has a shiny laquer finish on it.

1920's thats cool! guess it would have to be like that for the suckers to stick, thought it may have been a painted metal sheet though.

Apex didn't make any metal boards. I can't imagine it caught on very well. Those were the first and only ones I have seen and like I said the owner didn't even know they had a rubber stamp of rubber tip darts. That is the only board like that, that he and I have seen also. Pretty rare.
