Was having a browse and found these stems with hooks on called Hook Ups.

They are home made but maybe people across the atlantic know of them, here is a Youtube clip of them, and also one with the guy making them:

Ok its a bit of a strange thing, but I like the guys ingenuity all the same.

Me think me like.

But. Dont know if it has the potential become big.

ppl would have to buy new flight punches:)

It is better than those darn rings that I use now.

Hmm. Maybe I should come up with a super idea and make some money.

LOL yeah I can see why the name made you think that!

Its a clever idea, but Cosmo flights do it better.

Also I wonder how it will affect the balance of the dart having the wire on one side of the stem?

The process of adding the wire looks a long and fiddly one, so I can't see him making a huge amount of them, unless he finds a way to mass produce it, which is possible but I think its unlikely to go big commercially.

I concur about the balance, very good point. Realised it after my post. As for marketing, big greedy companies will rip off most things and call it their own.
Reminds me of a certain re-pointing machine that I noticed about 2 years ago, marketed by a big UK darts Co. for something around 160 Nicker (good word that)!
I bought the almost identical machine "named the beast" about 3 months earlier from an Australian Co. for just 57 this included p&p.
What is strange though is that the Ausie Co. no longer advertises it. Strange that, don't you think?

I'm sure lots of big companies have taken ideas from individuals like the guy who has made the hook ups, then altered/improved them then slapped a patent on them.

Yes I agree, a bit like the Wright Bro's and Thomas Edison to name a few.

I haven't tried it yet as I don't have any nylons around but it would seem a lot easier and add less weight to just drive a very hot needle through stem and flight. The melt would hold the flight in pretty well I would think, no punching, or bending or twisting and if you really needed to replace the flights, I would think a good pull with a pair of pliers would break it free so you could just slip in another, re-needle and off you go.

I'll have to give this a whirl when I get home.

Or you could just glue the flights in?

I dont think its such a great idea having the flight so well attached that it cannot pop off.

When it hits a dart thats already in the board it would prevent the dart from carrying on into the board.

Which is why the Cosmo spin stems work better than the locked stems, they allow the flight to move out the way so the rest of the dart continues to the target.

I think in the old days of feather flights, the feathers would part when hitting an obstruction so it was less of an issue then.

I just like the way that guy came up with something, although I think its a little over engineered but clever all the same.

Agreed. I don't "like" that my flights pop out all the time, but I think it's better than kicking a dart completely off the board. Of course, I notice that the pros very rarely have either problem, so I'm wondering what their secret is (other than just being so good they never hit their own flights).

In fact... I can only recall ever seeing one really good robin hood on TV. Addie rammed a tip right through one of his flights in a match I saw. Other than that only the occasional bounce out or flight popping off... hmmm... now I really am wondering about this.

Anyway, I've been thinking of giving the Cosmos a spin (pun intended Smile ) but they seem terribly expensive for an experiment.

Oh, who am I kidding. Of course I'm going to try them. I need some o-rings so I need an excuse to order something else. Smile

LOL! Yes its that urge to try something that wont go until you get it. The Cosmos are very expensive though, its the one thing that I believe is putting people off the most, and justifiably so.

The stems should last well but the flights can last a good length of time or be mangled in no time, which is really frustrating if your just trying them for the first time.

When I was using the locked stems, a couple of times the flight popped off but with the spin stems they last much longer, although can still be damaged if the dart has an heavy contact with one of the flights leading edges.
