Concerning darts that is lol. Have you helped new players even though they may play on a different team ? (No not during the match silly). I do many times but only if they are receptive to help or ask me first. I know some players who beat lesser players up then talk smack (not nice IMO) about the player. Any way I like to help if I can, What say you?

If I can help out I will - whether they are opposition or not I don't care, it's only a game

I would do both, there is always people who need help and there is always people willing to give it, may not always be useful mind! Smile

I am happy to help anyone starting out in this game. I have had teammates get mad because I will help an opponent out with strategy while we are playing league matches. At the end of the day it is only a game and we are all going to wake up and go to work in the morning regardless of winning and losing. I don't do this in open comps during a match but will after the match is over. Only if they ask though, some folks don't want help or advise, so no point in offering advise if it is not wanted.

The thing is, I think we should help others if we want to encourage and help to develop this sport we love so much.

I would only advise someone as far as my knowledge allows though or at least point them in the right direction. I would say I am more in the learning stages myself and still finding many useful things from reading the forums and books etc . Not everything works what people advise but I try it anyway.

Guess there is a right time for helping/advising someone else though, and during a comp is probably not the best time.

I have trouble helping someone who has been in the leagues for a long time and doesn't know what to aim for when say 41 is left on the board.

I try to help as much as I can, even if it's an opponent, I have also loaned darts out for people to help them find a good dart for them.

I have a person that I'm trying to help with training and development Smile

Seeing your mention of people talking smack if one of there players loses reminded me of something.

When i first signed up for my current team, I hadnt played darts in close to 2 years owing to the deadly dartitis. Anyway safe to say after 2 years out i wasnt the t most consistent player. My team were all really supportive and my game steadily improved. When I one my first league game for the team (against a local lad who plays pdc youth tour) my team screamed congratulations and all bought me a pint.
Anyway I went to the toilet and was followed by the opposing teams captain who had no hestitation in telling me 'I'm glad you beat him, the cockey little sh**'

Just goes to show what nurture of a talent does as opposed to berating a player if he does badly.

I most definately like to help anybody out that wants help before during or after a match it doesn't really matter to me.. The only time I wont help anyone out during a match is when I'm playing in a singles match during a tournament if people are playing at those kind of comps then IMO they should already know how to play. If they want advice after we play then by all means I will try to help them out, but does this make me a jerk to play against? No, I have fun when I play against anyone, a lot of people around here in leagues ask me sometimes why I'm so serious when I play and I tell them it's not so much serious as it is focused because I try to block out everything when I step up to the line it's the only way I can play at a high level and thats what I expect from myself whenever I play and against whoever I play.

i definately not a taker, especially when im in the zone and some know it all volunteers mouthfuls of shit i already know or just likes to regurgitate thoughtless loads of advice just to sound like he knows a lil sumthing about a lil sumthing. if i wanted to hear endless rubbish i'd stay at home and talk to the wifey-im stubborn, abit anti-social, and despise frivelous conversations. if i think i need advice ill ask for it, and ill ask the person who i think knows the answer.

For me its all about how advice is given. i have never liked being told " you should" or "you need to" do this or that. I take advice much better and think the people in general are much more receptive when you say something like " i had the same problem, and this is what fixed it for me"

as far as me giving advice, my policy is simple-i only give my advice or opinion when asked for it. the only exception to this is when im teaching someone the game or the player is very young.
adults are on there own unless they request it. I'm a firm beleiver in letting people discover themselves on their own terms, in life and also in darts.

I try to offer advice so long as they seem to want it. I often am the one receiving advice as well from the more advanced players, which I am receptive to so long as they aren't talking down on me or telling me the same crap in between every time I step to the oche.
