| Do you guys find yourself going for 180's when that little voice in the back of your head is saying "Go 19's man, your kinda blocked"? I just caught myself doing it twice while practicing. 1st time i was deflected into the trip 5 and the next time I took a deflection into the single 20. makes me wonder what would of happened if I eyeballed the WIDE OPEN 19's. Why is it that a 180 is SO much better than a 177? Surely 3 points won't screw up a game will it? I can tell by looking at the "show us your high score" thread that nobody really gives a crap about a 177 or 174. But when we hit a 180 we have to break out the camera or upload a vid. I do it myself. Why oh why are we so obsessed with 180's?? I do it myself all the time. Was just wondering what you guys think. |

| I tend to hit more 180's when shooting at a blocked up bed. When it is wide open, I tend to think for a split second and miss. |

| My god, I was just thinking about this before you posted it! I had my 180 "greed" bite me in the @$$ last night at a blind draw. We were sitting at 256, and I stepped up and threw the first 2 darts into the 60 bed. The 2nd dart sort of deflected in and was sitting sideways blocking the rest of the bed. So what did I do? Did I move to the wide open 57 bed? Of course not! I just tried to cram the 3rd one in there!! Of course, it deflected off into the T1! So basically, instead of hitting a 177 to leave my partner with a very reasonable 79, I hit a 123, leaving him at 133! Needless to say, he couldn't take out the 133 and our opponents finished on the next shot, knocking us out of the draw. |

| I don't know this either. Taylor hits loads of 177 with a clap and a cheer if lucky but with a 180,the whole place goes bananas. I've always went for the 180's as I'm young but now I'm hitting them more often, I've only ever hit 1, 177. It's as good as a maximum. 3 darts where they are aiming at. If you do get 2 in the T20 then it does seem easier though to get the 3rd in as you already done that action twice. 177's are a bit more awkward. Weird one really |

| I feel like it's a bit of a letdown to have to move off the 20's. If I throw the 1st 2 darts into the 60 bit more than likely I'm staying on it. Even though I had 2 bad deflections earlier, I've had my share of deflections that actually helped me out as well. As dart players we all talk about percentage shots, and shooting at the best possible target. But sometimes out of sheer determination I'll try and force that last 60 in when I know damn well I should be going for 19's. Stubborn I guess. |

| I don't think a 177 carries any less weight than a 180 and at the start of a leg or around the 220 mark they are both welcomed but the 180 is the highest shot you can hit to that's why it's held in such regard. I suppose the same could be said for the 170 finish as any finish on the bull is easier with 2 trebles the same so in effect a 170 is easier than a 167 but it's still not the highest out shot so the 170 gets the nod.
County games are the same as the only recognised scores that go up in red are the shots at 100 or over so 99 's and 95's etc not highlighted which can be demoralising if you hit the treble 5 a few times and I feel the same about that.
To be fair I have seen many a player hit a 180 when wanting 186 or 190 just to say they hit one in a match and then have lost the leg and the game which I find totally foolish, but I suppose I am lucky enough to have hit a few in my time so I would rather leave a decent double and win the game now. |

| 180's are nice, but they don't win games.
Another way to look at it, deflecting off into something other than the T20 gives anything from 121 to 140. As a player, you need to decide if these are acceptable with the possibility of a perfect score or if you're happy with 139 if you miss the T19 (or less if you really miss). Given the choice, I'd happily never throw a max if it meant I could have all my 3 dart finishes nailed. |

| Its because its the highest score. But I totally agree on that 177,174 are just as great. And I have been throwing 177 and 174 when the situation needed it. But I have also did stupid things. 186 left, throwing 180 there because my team-mate and I had a tag-along 180 comp and he had just thrown a 180 to level to 3-3 so I wanted to get back into the lead But I checked out the d3 on first dart after But many players focus purely on the t20 and thats why they throw for 180s, they are unsure on the 19s or 18s and therefore throw the last dart on the t20. But thats just my theory and I dont know for sure that it is so, but I have seen it, and heard it so many times |

| People are obsessed with 180 scores - last week in the Doubles we had 201 left and I hit 2 x T20 before coming down for T19 to leave my partner 24 and a 1 dart finish.
This week we had 182 left, he hit 2 x T20 and then went for the 3rd just to hit a 180. Glad to say he missed with his last dart leaving me 62. Had he left me with D1 out of pure greed I would not have been happy!! |
