Ok folks, so after basically starting my darts career from scratch at Christmas I decided today to test myself with a few games of 501.

I played four in a row and took note of a few key stats.

And here they are!

High scores by leg. (1)81; (2) 100; (3) 126; (4) 75.

Three dart average up to first shot at a double. 41.25.

Three dart average including hitting double. 34.

Highest checkout. 70 (18, 18, D17)

Now I know it will take weeks of compiling similar stats to build up an accurate picture of how my game is coming along.

But - as these results stand on their own - how am I doing for a beginner.

Clearly my three dart average ain't the best but the doubles stat doesn't seem to bad.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I tend to agree with Jamie, dont get tied up too much with stats. Its nice to check from time to time, but dont get obsessed with them.

Yeah dont get too caught up with the stats, but it is useful now and then to gauge your progress. I think a lot of beginners have the same experience so its only natural you want to improve. But from what you have done there your doing well and moving along nicely. good job

I think the more important way to gauge your progress is how your darts are grouping, if your grouping is improving all the time and your darts are getting closer together, then it means your throw is becoming more consistent. The accuracy will follow in due course.

Thanks for the feedback chaps - very much appreciated.

Good advice regarding not getting bogged down in stats - i think this is something I would do maybe one a month just to keep a record of progress.

Grip - my grouping is improving, to the extent I'm getting more bounce outs as one dart smacks into another - still a long way to go to get that consistent though.

I'm just really enjoying the game at the moment - after four weeks, I finally feel comfortable at the oche, the mental reminders each time I throw are becoming more and more second nature too.

My concentration levels are better and i'm not letting poor shots bother me so much.

All in all, just loving playing and look forward to getting home from work so I can have a throw or two.

Needless to say, being on here has really played a part in all that.

thats good, just keep enjoying it, the improvements will happen for a while yet, at some point you may hit a wall which is natural, then you can think about what to do next. For now your doing well though. Smile
