| Hi All, I am currently using 24g Double 16 Elite Darts, from Red Dragon. I see they have brought out two soft tip versions of this grip, 18g and 20g : http://www.reddragondarts.com/sec/7351/Soft-Tip-Double-16-Elite-Grips-17-90/Now I was just thinking of trying a set just out of interest, I doubt that I will like them but I am interested in trying them. Now I have a couple of questions : Which weight would you recommend I try? I understand that Soft Tip darts are the full setup weight, so the 18g will probably be around 15.5g I'd guess. Do I go full out and get the 18g or try the 20g. Also, How will the original soft tips hold up on an normal board? Just that I will replace them with Cosmo Titanium Conversion Points, but the 28mm Version are currently out of stock at DartsCorner. Thanks, James |

| I've used my grandads 17g darts and throw them better than my 24g extremes!!! Why not have a try?! What's the worst that can happen? |

Why not have a try?! What's the worst that can happen? Thanks Adam. As you said, I've got nothing to lose (Except for £17 ) I am tempted, but the only thing putting me off is the fact that hardly any people use darts which are <20g in Steel Tip. I know that Ted Hankey does... Thanks, James |

| Sure someone would swap something for them. Like 48g darts. Most people want to try them so 1 set go through about 10 people... |

| James, I think you may find that soft tip darts are the barrel weight only.
I know my sets are.
I then add 1.5g for my flight and stem set up and another gram or so for my conversion points giving me a 21g dart from an 18g barrel.
Might pay you to email RD and confirm. |

| Hello and welcome aboard. If your dropping from 24g to 18g and assuming RD is giving the weight for the whole set up then its a 6g drop, so may take a little getting used to at first but it is amazing how quick you can adapt if you give it a go. But if your not going to play soft tip darts I dont really see the point if all your wanting to do is experiment with soft tips, then you may as well just buy any cheap set of soft tips. |

That's a very good point Adam - Jimbo21 wrote:

Thanks for the Welcome The reason for wanting to buy them is because I want to try a lighter dart and I really like the Elite grip. It is not that I want to try soft tip - If I like the weight, I will add conversion points. It is difficult to find low weight steel tip darts, especially with high grip! Thanks, James |

| I have bought the 18g Version! (Thought I would put it in Bold so everyone could see ) I went for them as even if they are barrel only I want to try a dart which is <18g, if they are around 15.5g that will be fine. I'm just interested now to see how people think the original points will hold up on a normal dart board? Thanks again, James |

Haha, Well If I'm completely honest the 'Multi-Quote' Option didn't work - So I had to individually copy each Quote into the reply, no big deal though Thanks, James |

| The soft tip points will be ok in a steel tip board. JD has thrown a lot of soft tip darts at his steel tip board with no problems.
The main thing you will find is that your darts will sit flat in the board. |

| I see, that makes sense then, best to stick to a grip you like then. The multi quote is easy, for each post you want to quote click the multi quote button once to highlight it on each post, then click the reply button at the top of page or bottom of page. |

I like really grippy darts, so it helps to stay with them I never realised that you had to click the 'Reply' bit... Thanks, James |

| Im not sure why they sit flat mate. May be because they are more flexible than steel points.
It is funny watching them go in the board at first because they wobble for a second or so. |

| http://shop.ninedartout.us/Fit-Point-Titanium-Conversion-Points-FitPoint-Metal-Tit.htmORhttp://shop.ninedartout.us/Fit-Point-Stainless-Steel-Conversion-Points-FitPoint-Metal-Stainless.htmThere is a 10% discount code available. So if you order let me know. You already know, but go with the 28mm ones. Another thing I should mention. MANY people in soft tip DON'T use an aggressive grip dart. The reason being is that the darts don't often come out of the board very easy. In steel tip you just walk to the board and grab your darts. They come out with very little effort. Not the case in soft tip. You usually have to give the dart a small little CLOCKWISE turn as you pull them out in order to free them from the board. Do this all day with an aggressive dart and I promise you, you will have raw fingertips. Maybe even blisters. You can use soft tips on a regular sisal board. I do so often. Target Lip points work well but you may have to scuff them up as you would a silver point. My Lip points have a shiny coating on them that allows the point to be removed a bit easier from an electronic board. |

I have sent darts corner a message asking when they will have the Cosmo points in stock. That would explain why there are very little high level grip soft tip darts! I can't use a low level grip dart unfortunately. The reason i was asking about the soft tip point on a normal board was because I'm wondering how the standard set will hold up while I'm waiting to get some Cosmos. Thanks again! James |
