I dont think it was set in stone, thought the idea of canes was so that they could be cut to the preference of the player?

All the ones I have had have been in varying lengths.

I have to agree with Darren here, I've got different length canes as well, same as the modern plastic ones come in different lengtht' s , the individual would just cut them to suit as far as im aware

I agree - the canes are cut according to preference. We used to use cane stems at home years ago back in the 60's but I wasn't allowed to cut them as I was too young just in case I cut my finger off or something (strange I was allowed to throw the darts though with their shart points lol).

Many thanks for your thought on this subject

I think I will go with 65mm showing

In the 60's when I started playing,pre plastic/metal canes,

Some people used Hickory for shafts and Xray plate for flights

Was this just a Yorkshire thing

All the best

No idea Alec, but where did you get the X ray plate from?

Hospital

You cut them to shape, put in warm water, then folded and stuck,
Hickory is from pick/hammer shaft,

Better than paper as lots round here played with Schofield's

All the best

I see, just did not think they would give things out like that.

I guess it was like an early laminated flight then. Before I was born though, so news to me but interesting. Very Happy

LOL the first dart I ever saw was in about 1976, belonged to my older brother, brass and feather, was a while later before I threw one. Smile
