I think he has got a point, they are a bunch of narked up idiots most of the time with no respect for the players or game.
Much better to watch on TV to enjoy the sport, much better to go there to have a weekend on the beer.
IMO the pdc have created a monster that they cant control anymore because it funds the lifestyles of the players. The players themselves cant enjoy it when they are on the receiving end of the mindless mob (the mob that funds the payouts).
It has got so bad for the players that some have now taken to wearing earplugs to drown them out.
Just my opinion but I remember at the lakeside the crowd being loud and excited, but when the player was throwing it was BEST OF ORDER PLEASE, and you could hear a pin drop which meant they watched the game and appreciated the tension.
Just my opinion

I think that article is almost blaming darts for the cause of the beer drinking. Its nothing new, people have been drinking lots in Britain for over 100 years its only because its more visible now and more available that it is seen as a problem.

The problem is the attitude of the people going to the competition who see it as an opportunity to get bladdered and have a laugh. They are not serious darts fans and it is another lads on the town mentality to them. But at the same time it is Christmas time when people celebrate anyway so they choose the Ally Pally as their venue.

For me it spoils it though, as it seems more like a football match at times with such moronic chanting that quickly becomes very irritating and is often fuelled by the booze. More disgraceful is the booing, it is so wrong and I am sure it has ruined many a chance for a player who may have otherwise won a leg.

Its all gone too far now and cant be stopped, but it is not just darts that is the cause of such behaviour it is the way people are now almost as if it is a fashion. Its not going to change but I do think nothing was ever done to prevent it getting worse and if they decided to stop drink been on sale at such comps the attendance will drop and with it the money so it wont happen.

I think it spoils the fun somewhat and that some of the players are just as much part of the problem with all the drama and circus acts. I want to watch proper darts not a soap opera. I have to agree with Mattstan, while many mock the BDO they for the most part are more enjoyable for me to watch. I look forward to this years BDO championships

I am 100% behind him as I also think it was a disgrace. The PDC has now become a money making machine and the Darts will go the same way Football has over the past 20 years and that's downhill fast. The Ally Pally has always been a big P#ss up thats why all my mates go it's not for the darts it's as they say for the atmosphere and to get parra and have a laugh, well I go to watch the darts. I will never go again to a big event as I feel the crowd are out of control and after having drinks spilled all over my wife and other drinks stolen and being trampled half to death so that people can get their 20 seconds of fame when the camera is on them is just not for me. Either VIP or i will not go again it's that simple and thats a shame as I have such a passion for my darts & I even enjoy a good drink but not at the expense of others enjoyment. I say ban all alcohol then see how many will turn up from the lager lout community NONE that's how many but at least the true fans would be able to watch, listen & enjoy the game for what it is, a beautiful ART not pavement art as we see after every game outside. I had to turn the sound down on my TV as the chanting about who's in what seat just wound me up and as for the booing when a player is on a double well I would hoof them out straight away. The PDC need to get a grip before it's too late.

What makes me laugh, is that it has become the norm for people to be kicked out of the venues, and we often here the commentators, pundits and players making reference to it in interviews.

It seems that some people go just for a pi$$ up and have no intention of watching the darts and just want to chant, boo and jeer, and unfortunately, these morons have tickets and those that want to go to enjoy the darts cant. Must have more money than sense.

Sadly, I don't think there is an answer to the proble, and as Kev says above, the PDC has become a money making machine, and it is at the point of no return.
