The Moment for Glory Empty
PostSubject: The Moment for Glory   The Moment for Glory EmptySat Oct 27, 2012 11:54 pm

All year the new player had been waiting to play with his team mate the Top shooter in the league.
After begging his Captain that he would not let them down in this final match for the league Championship the Captain smiled and said your wish has been granted.
The match was nip and tuck all night with the pub crowd gathering to see who would come away with the Championship and being a money league the 1st prize of considerable monies.
The new player had brought his wife, neighbors and friends for support and they where eagerly waiting this final match!
It comes down to the final match of doubles 501 DIDO a worthy game to decide who wins it all.
The new player gets slaps on the back and looks of encouragement from his wife , team mates and his partner the Top Gun of the league!
The new player checks his flights , stems and a quick scuff of his points dutifully.
His Partner steps to the line for the Bull up to decide who goes first and calmly hits the double red bull winning the right to go first.
The Top Gun his partner doubles in with a great score of a ton 120.
As the game progresses the new player has fallen on hard times and hasn't hit over 45 on any turn.
Words of encouragement continues to come from mates and family and after all his partner is throwing tons so the game is close.
They have 187 left and the new player knows that if he can get under 171 his Top Gun Partner will come through like he has done all year.
Stepping to the Oche the new players mouth goes dry, hundreds are watching, team mates are hushed and this is the most important throw of his life.
Positioning himself he's thinking If I hit a 100 or better the money is ours.
Focusing on the treble 20 he draws back and lets fly his newly acquired arrow determined to shine this turn.
The dart lands dead center big 20. Okay he thinks this is ok and drawns his second art and quickly launches and hits just outside the big 20 for a miserable 5 !
Sweat pouring off his face he turns and looks at his mates and crowd. They don't return his look.
Now with steely determination he thinks quickly , Anything but a 1 will give my partner the Top Gun an out! But if I can hit that treble 20 he surely will win this for all concerned.
All match long he has buggered the team with his play now with this one last dart is his chance to change of of this.
The crowd is silent , his mates wanting him to shoot treble 19 desperately. And if he hits a single 19 then all is well.
But no! with heart pounding, his eyes focused squarely on the treble 20 he draws his dart back confidently.
He knows this is going to hit, no doubt about it. Just as he starts his launch an opposing player coughs loudly and the dart lands squarely in the fat 1 for
His breakfast! His moment of glory has ended the season with a 26!

Ive been in a similar position. 10 all and 1 leg apiece. We are both on double 10. I have already missed with my first 3 darts at it. My opponent splits d20.

My turn again and I sit all 3 darts hard on the outside wire.
My opponent steps up, 1st dart out, 2nd dart out, I'm thinking I wont miss again and just want his 3rd dart to go where the other 2 are.

But no, he plants the d10 fair square in the middle for the game and the match, making them the champions for that season.

The next season, 1 of my team says he would like the last game and he duly won it giving us the title. But afterwards he comes to me and says that I can have that spot back as he never wants to feel that pressure again. lol

I like to tell everyone that there isnt that much pressure, but OMG it is intense. But that is what I thrive on.

In my Monday night team, my position in the 6 is decided by what number is playing the last game of the night. Home games I usually am #6 and away games I am usually #4.

I have filled this role with this team and its predecessor and have been able to come out on top I reckon a good 75% of the time. I am able to treat it as any other game I have played.
