Individual Mechanics
One of the two things that appears to affect how women play are their individual mechanics and their confidence in annekramer1 1themselves and their game.

The first subject I would like to touch on would be mechanics. Most women seem to think that when they start playing that they have to hop, jump, skip or do a shot-put dance to get the dart to the board. The thought comes to mind that they need to throw a dart like they are throwing a baseball. I remember meeting a young lady once, who was a new player, and she told me that because she was only 4’ 10”, that she felt she had to put some extra effort from her body into her throw in order for the dart to reach the board. And she exerted even more energy when she had to throw at the top of the board. It was at this time when we met, and she saw my mechanics and that I was only 4 inches taller than her that she realized she was jumping around far too much. There are no rules when it comes to size, shape, and gender for throwing darts.

Ladies should remember to find a stance that is stable and comfortable for them. Not how someone else stands or how someone else tells them to stand. There is no law set in stone that says you need to stand facing the board, at a 45 degree angle or at a 90 degree angle. The second thing to remember is that the more motion you have in your throwing process, the more things you have to go wrong in that process. The best bet to start is to hold your arm up so that it is at a 90 degree angle. Your throwing motion should utilize all of your lower arm with a minimal motion from your upper arm. On your follow through, once the dart is released you should continue following through with your arm and the end result would be at least one of your fingers pointing at the target.

As a new player, always remember that you are not going to be perfect. Darts will go everywhere and this will only get better with practice. The best practice to focus on would be trying to get all 3 darts in a certain section of the board, like the larger section of the 20. As time goes by, and with more practice, you will be able to narrow down your target base. I received great advice from someone a long time ago when they told me that if a lady player could manage to hit three single 20’s per turn, she would win a majority of her matches against other ladies. This takes away a lot of the pressure in competition and thinking that you had to hit big scores each turn to win a game. It also creates more confidence in yourself as a player. Confidence is another key factor that I will touch on with the next article.

Hope the ladies and maybe even some of the guys enjoyed this little bit of advice and thanks for stopping by!

Great points Sleepy. Not only for female darters but men as well. I see so many players that hop and jump around at the oche and then complain about inconsistent play.

I almost got speared at the chalk board 3 feet away by one of the ladies that my missus used to play against. She throws side arm, half of her darts end up on the floor cos she hits the cabinet and the half that score will cover all sections of the board.

The ladies team down my way are made up of current and ex county players. Bitches are smart too, they flirt, wiggle and conveniently drop darts. I have to keep my eyes closed for half the bloody match.

What pub where? Is it still open, are they still naked. How long would it take me to get there. Do I need a plane, train or automobile? lol

That's just outright cheating, I would have recorded the lowest average in history, but enjoyed it never-the-less. Laughing
