This worked for me, so if anyone out there is struggling with how they should stand or where they should grip their darts hopefully this could help. It may be a complete waste of time but I do feel its worth a try if you are struggling.
Well firstly as you will have read many times, there is no right way or wrong way to hold a dart or stand at the oche, it is entirely down to the individual.
Also there is no rule set in stone that says a person with a Phil Taylor physique should stand side on like the Power, or a taller player should stand this way and a smaller play stand like that, it is all down to the individual.
And as each individual is different, there should be no need to copy how a pro throws his darts or how he stands, you first an foremost, in my opinion anyway, need to find a way where
you are most comfortable, here is how I did it.
I set my alarm to go off after 15mins and began throwing, I cleared my head and just started throwing, 20's, 19's, 18's, Bullseyes, doubles, I stopped thinking about how I was standing and how I was holding the dart and concentrated 100% on what I was throwing at never once looking down to see where my feet were or where my fingers were holding the dart. The darts weren't the most accurate I have ever thrown but they were there or there abouts.
It actually took 2 times with me as the first time the alarm went off I was retrieving my darts, but the 2nd time it went off after 15mins I stopped mid throw. (it may take 3 or 4 attempts for you to catch it just as you are throwing).
I wouldn't say I was in a trance but I was really relaxed and focused, the alarm actually made me jump as I was not expecting it, but when it went off, and only then did I look where my feet were and where I had hold of the darts.
My leading foot was pointing at 11 o'clock (if straight forward is 12 o'clock) and I was holding the dart with 2 fingers towards the front of the barrel and my middle finger on the point, so that's exactly how I throw now and for over 12 months it has worked for me, yes I have had off days (weeks) but overall I am happy and comfortable with that side of my game and it gives me less to worry about or concentrate on while I am throwing.
Way I look at it, I could try and stand like Phil Taylor, I could hold the dart like Simon Whitlock but I don't believe that what works for them will work for me, I have tried and failed to copy people and decided last year that my own mind and body knows best, just throw for a while, clear your mind and eventually your mind and body will adapt to what it feels a) is most comfortable for you and b) works best for you.
So now I know how to hold my darts and where to put my feet when throwing based on what suits me, may not work for anyone else but worked for me, if you are having trouble adjusting and finding what works best for you then I think for 30mins or so of your time it is well worth a go.
Good Luck.
