Stem and flight set up Empty
PostSubject: Stem and flight set up   Stem and flight set up EmptySun Aug 19, 2012 2:10 am

Playing with my set up again, not the first time and probably not the last.
Does anyone have a sheet explaining what stem size and thickness and flight shape type and material actually do to the flight of a dart.
Or do we just go trial and error.
For example Phase 6 darts with the Taylor set up actually land as his do(and I mean straight and flat, not in the treble lol! ) when i throw them, but if we change flights the start going in the board wonky.

Theres a small section here about flights and what not http://www.dartswarehouse.com/Darts101/how+to+choose+your+darts.html

Also if youre using Unicorn darts, try the Unilab on the unicorn website, gives you 'the optimised' set-up for your dart. A tries a good as any right?

Yea ,there is that, but im after information like fabric flight will say stabilise the darts or sigma one delta flights only seem to work nicely if you throw harder. that type of stuff

Its basically trial and area, I think it is more surface area of the flight and length of the stem that have the biggest affect, a big flight and a long stem will cause more air resistance and therefore more drag and slow the speed of the dart through the air.

Yeah what grip said.
Also what suits you may not suit me or grip. It all depends on the style of throw i think.

agree with fox and grip. there's no perfect setup for everyone. in my case, i've reverted back to phase 5 stems and slims for my phase 6. i've decided to stick with this setup hopefully a long while.

the thicker the flight, the heavier the setup will be, therefore, more forgiving. but the flight dimensions are more critical. standards give me a high angle. kites seem to be faster than pears. the sigma pros make my dart dip lower. the slims are currently the best flights for me as they give me a flat angle that i like. pears are more forgiving than slims so sometimes i revert from slims to pears in the past. (Edit: funny thing happened. After posting this reply, I immediately shifted back to pears!)

the phase 5 stems have provided me a flatter angle than nylons (short, intermediate) that i normally use. i do love the sound of the darts when using nylons, as they land on the board. but the phase 5 stems are currently working for me.

by the way, nice dart and setup. Very Happy

good luck finding the "right" setup for your throw. ultimately, it's the throw that's most important. cheers!
