| Throw one set of darts and keep to that set
Don't think about what you are doing when approaching the oche - let it all become a natural progression |

| If you really want to improve you are going to have to stick to 1 set and just play darts , You will get a rhythm that suits you , Time , Patience and most of all Plenty of Practice |

| Dont think to much about it and as poster sais relax and throw your own way without copying any of the pros style of throw as we all have our own individual throw If your still crap as you say Darren which is then u shall just have to have a robotic arm / hand sewn on to you as maybe that shall do the trick, then when you make the big time you can be named the Mechanic and remember i gave you the name Pal |

| Practice, enjoyment and some good mates to play. Competitions and leagues and controlling our nerves is what it is all about......but you know all this. Which of the above are you missing? Oh and one other thing....stick to one set of darts only!!!!!!! |

I totally agree but this is grip we are talking about , He uses different darts every throw Must be hard not too though but the fact is you dont seem to have a consistent action or throw if you like , That takes practice in theory with heavier darts not the real light ones , Once you get a fairly repeatable throw you will be able to throw most darts , Then its just a matter of finding a set you feel comfortable with , You WILL get there mate just enjoy throwing darts the rest will come ! |

| I'd say what has improved me the most has been playing in a league team, granted I'm still not very good but my average has improved by over 10 points since I started. If I could improve my finishing I think it could come up another 5. The thing about being in a team is I practice with a team mate several times a week and we are pushing each other to get better. We are both newbies to competitive darts so we want to do well. If one of us wins a singles game, the other almost always plays well. So I'd recommend joining a team or at least finding a practice partner, I find myself motivated to practise when I have a bad game. I'd like to say you should continue with the same set but I know I usually have a set for 2 or 3 months and then want another set Best of luck grip! |

Hey thanks Shane and thanks for joining mate hope you like those darts ya got ;) I think what your saying is perfectly true as I have noticed others improving a great deal from joining a team, think I should start having a look and see if anyone will take me. Also the sticking to one set of darts I really think is essentially but been a dart tart its very hard to resist a nice shiny new set |

| Cheers grip, been throwing a bit with them today but I've a league game tonight so sticking with my 20g Nicholsons for now. I used to play with my friends purely for fun and never took it too seriously but since I've joined the team my play has improved a lot. Got 14 180s since I joined(none in a league but it will come i'm sure) where I had hit only 1 before that! Yep, shiny new darts are hard to resist best of luck finding a team. Let us know how you do. |

| All depends on my wrist pain to be honest, as when I play too much it worsens so I may not make it as yet, going to try some exercises soon the help it. |

| Ah, that's a pity about your wrist. Have you tried using lighter darts maybe or is it the motion that causes problems? I like to take a break after 1 hour of practice as I find I lose concentration and then get annoyed. |

I think its a mixture of my grip and the motion of the throw and my hypermobile joints. Since I have relaxed my grip a bit more it is less noticeable but has not gone completely, but my throw seems to be getting more consistent now. |

| I know I have a few bad habits that I need to get rid of. The problem is I think about it too much and it's affecting my game.
I am right-handed but left eye dominant (left-footed as well, what a freak!) so I can't aim as I've seen others aim. No matter my stance my darts always seem to drift to the left. Also I have a problem with my throw whereby the dart sometimes will almost go into the board sideways.
Still I could go down the pub tonight and maybe win four, five games running. It's frustrating. |

| Dont get caught up in the throw with the right aim with the left problem, its not an issue unless you allow it to be.
A lot of players throw with one hand but are dominant with the opposite eye, I have been trying to not aim with the dart and just look at where I want the dart to go and it seems to be working better. The brains natural process of eye hand co-ordination starts to develop after a time.
I bet if you pick a stone up or a cricket ball you can hit say a bucket without aiming the ball at the bucket. Its just the body takes time to get used to the action of throwing the dart.
I thought Gary Anderson was aiming his darts with his right eye because he brings it just under his eye, turns out he is left eye dominant so I was wrong. |
