Here I have 3 different sets of Gold Darts for you to have a look at
John Part Hero 24g
Barney World Champions 23g
Purists Phase 2 that I had modified 24g to 23g
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]As you can see all very similar darts but all with different personalities.
When I returned to darts 2 years ago from a lengthy 15 year lay off due to a messy divorce I found that my original slim ringed darts just did not work for me. Whether this was psychological or just that in 15 years I had put on weight and my stance and body shape on the oche may have changed. I had to start again from scratch trying all sorts of darts begged stole & borrowed from mates and many sets bought and then sold at a fraction of their cost.
I eventually found a set I liked with a really good grip, The Purists but did not like the nose as I had developed a new grip where my middle finger was on the point and that bulbous nose didn't allow the to happen as naturally as I liked. So I set off again on a quest to find a set of darts with similar grip to the Purists that were tapered at the nose. I did hours of research and eventually decided it would be easier to just have my sets altered to how I wanted them. I did this but due to the company that did all 4 sets making a bit of a mess of them and now me having 4 sets with 3 different weights I felt the need to go back to the drawing board & look for a set off the shelf that I knew I could get more sets all the same.
I tried the John Part Hero these are the same grip but did not come in 23g they are 24 and the extra gram makes me drop the darts short of the treble and I like to put my first dart in or above the treble wire so I can understack, so they had all the credentials with grip and shape but were a gram to heavy and I was not going to spend more money having them modified.
Next I went for the Raymond van Barneveld World Champion in a 23g but these are half a mm thicker and again I could feel it when gripping the dart, but again great shape and grip but these also were not right, as I started to flick with my index finger releasing my grip a fraction too early resulting in my darts sticking in the board at a very peculiar angle.
I have decided that I will now send all 4 sets of Purists off to a different company to have them all altered again to the lowest weight so that I can use either colour on any given day.
I just wanted to show you all 3 sets as they are all brilliant darts and just share my experience with all 3 as the slightest of change can make a huge difference to your game.
