It is made from wood slats that are held together by a metal frame around the perimeter. It is the same design on both sides. Heavy, well made.

That's a good looking dart board. It's interesting to see how dart boards have evolved.

The board is made of wood. About 1 inch thick. It is not one solid piece but about 3" slats running vertically. It has a metal frame all around holding it all together. There is a patent number on it 704144 but I have not researched it to see exactly when it was made.

The application date for that patent was 14th July 1950 and was filed by Edward Henry Albert Leggatt according to here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hmm good find Mike, not sure who he is though but interesting. Even more interesting after a little further investigation. Mr Leggatt was an industrial chemist from Woodford Green who invented a modelling clay which he called Nodor (because it had no odour). He formed the company we all now know in 1919, and he branched out into dartboards in 1923. He was also the first president of the National Darts Association. For a bit more detail have a look at the Nodor-Winmau story from Dr Darts site: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
