Ok so I'm ordering my daughter her first set of darts today, she decided on pink red dragon fusions. They come in either 22g or 24g and I was wondering what the best weight would be for her. I started with a set of 22's but have changed weights so many times in my time playing its silly. Thrown everything from 15g to 28g.

Anyway what do you guys reckon the best weight would be for someone starting out?

I started with 21g, and had a terrible time adjusting. I've used 24g the longest, but currently using 25-26g but too tiring.

Without her actually trying the darts, my guess is 24g, not too heavy and a forgiving weight.

Yeah my thinking is the same as Cutter, 24g seem to be the ideal for anyone starting out. The balance is just right - not too heavy, not too light. Still throwing 24g myself after playing properly since a year and a half ago - True i've got other darts at different weights such as 23g which I throw from time to time but I end up returning to the old faithful 24g's

I would say 24g is a good starting point too, but how old is she? can she throw that weight, its ok for an adult but not sure about kids?

Shes 5, but iv got my old board set up a few feet lower for her. Shes been doin ok with my 23g v-wings

thats awful young, I would limit the time at the board because of the young joints, tendons and ligaments, Say 10-15 max for a while. Thats my opinon mate. Use the heavier weight is recommended. Why? more effort to throw a feather than an ounce , think about it.

Yeah I know it's quite young, but shes showing a real interest (She'll always come and watch me practise and often asks to play aswell) and she wanted a set for her birthday. Cheers for the help guys.

i've always heard heavier is better for beginners from quite a few people. (ie 24-26g) i've dabbled with 24g, 23g, 21g, and have finally settled on 25g haha.

Cheers for the help guys. Ordered the 24's and some flowery flights for her. Was gonna have the barrels but werent sure if they'd arrive in time for her birthday.
