Hello Guys . Troll here .I wanna talk about playing drunk here. For me it dosent help at all, just spoils the game. I cant see target as good as sober ,my coordination isn't much better ,it is worse btw .
You should play as in practice ,but how much of you drink when practice? There are plenty of psychology manuals ,so why we choose a lager instead? We are tense in comp ,we wanna relax but is the pint best way ?I cant believe in it to be honest.

I dont play drunk but I like to have a drink on match night.

I tend to try and get 2 or 3 pints down before my game, and 1 while I am playing.

Any more than 5 pints and I may as well go home or play left handed rebel smilie

Nothing, since having kids darts night (and pool night before) is the only night I get to go out socializing, so I like a few beers when I am out.

I think it maybe relaxes me a bit, makes me think less about my grip, stance, block out noise etc but some of these things could be classed as negatives as some players would need more focus on their actions etc.

Its not that I never play sober, just I prefer a drink, makes no major difference to my game though, not until the 5th or 6th pint anyway. saucepot

When I played League darts, I would have five settlers (pints) before I would have thrown a dart. Then three more while warming up and one during the game, also about ten cigarettes. Then after the game whatever money I had in my pocket. I would have loved to been able to play sober but I was unable to. I know a lot would say it is all in the head , well in my case it was, the lager head!! Love to see dart players thrown without the aid of alcohol, Gary Anderson for example.

never played darts with a drink ,but when i used to play pool in pubs i'd be crap then 2 or 3 pints and i could fly round the table like ronnie o'sullivan clearing up then 5 or 6 pints i'd be crap again. i think it is confidence but the more drinks you have the concentration levels drop to far

Have you tested this lately though? Be honest, when was the last time you played league or any sort of competitive darts while 100% sober? Maybe you could try it this upcoming week for us? I'd be curious to see the results.

I don’t play in leagues these days, but, when I did I always had a pint or two prior to playing my match. I thought I needed it. However, this one day I was late coming home from work, so I rushed and had a shave, shower, etc, and off I went down the pub hoping I haven’t missed the boys because it was an away game. Anyway, I got there just as they were starting to leave, so off I went. Got to the pub we were playing in and I was on first, so I didn’t have time to have my usual/essential two, or three pints. And I hit an 180 in the match…..whoohoo!!! So when we got back to our local all the boys was saying how I had hit an 180 in my match etc, and I was celebrating by drinking as if it was going out of fashion.

And do you know what happened next? I only went and proposed to my girlfriend…..NOW I WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE THAT WHEN I WAS SOBER!!!

So avoid alcohol at darts matches…..it’s not worth it. lol!

Alcohol was also the reason for me proposing to Mrs.B, a dirty weekend in Dublin, Saturday night in the Temple bar, a group of traditional Irish musicians playing in the upstairs room, pipes, strings, whistles the lot - half a barrel of Guinness and the deed was done No

@Taffs lol on floor lol on floor lol on floor

All I can say is, if I was playing for the kind of money they do in the PDC, or if I was trying to get rankings I couldn't see having anything in my system that would hamper my abilities.

I play mostly in a fun league which is mostly retirees who are out for a fun evening. Of course I would love to be hitting big scores most of the time but my dart night is mostly a very social event where the people who play aren't as nutz about the game as I/we are. I find that on the nights when I can't have a drink, there are so many people drinking around me that I usually crack and have a couple not to feel out of place. I know it doesn't help my game either, three or four beer max, then my game goes south. I would say that if you want to improve, the best thing to do is throw your darts, then when the game is over, have as many as you want.
I think that if you are using alcohol to calm your nerves, you should give it up and develop a thicker skin or better coping skills.

I dont drink at league or tournaments, but when I practice at home, I will drink anywhere up to 16 cans of beer.

I like to unwind when I practice. lol

After much experimentation, I've learned that if I drink, at all, while I'm playing, my game suffers. For the last few months I've stopped drinking before and during league nights (I play 3 nights a week). I've noticed a change, my confidence stays constant, I don't react so much to bad shots ,and my playing is more consistant for the evening.

An added benefit is I don't have to worry about getting busted for drinking and driving on the way home.

All that being said...I usually buy 2 beer for when I get home..to celebrate or , more often, sooth my wounded pride.

One of my friends says that my darts are fantastic after having 3 pints! Possibly because I have a little "Dutch courage" and try going for checkouts that I would never attempt before the drink! Tried at one time to play a game absolutley sober and played the worst darts ever in my life! After 3 it's got to be shandies just to keep the level stable!!!!!

I know you shouldn't rely on having a drink in order to calm your nerves. However, in all of those psychology books they say you are supposed to come up with a routine to help you make whatever you do feel more natural and calm the nerves. So, I could have chosen chewing gum but I prefer a pint instead Laughing chugger

Did it just after christmas. Have no desire to use a new set but, half in the bag, thought a set on Dart corner looked interesting. Luckily only around 40.00, I probably sell them to someone at work.
