We played the 2nd leg of our semi-final tonight. Being 8-3 down from the first leg was okay and we were hoping they'd turn up a bit complacent and even though we put up a good fight, we still went out despite a 6-5 Win on the night.

BUT!!!! My darts tonight were something else!!!!

In the doubles (1001 ), I hit - 100, 140, 81, 85, 100, 100, 118 and D10. The 118 was from 138 to leave the D10, my partner missed. But I scored an amazing 744 out of the 1001 we needed and we Won. What was even better was that when I hit the D10 they'd actually got down to a Double as well. They couldn't believe it as my partner was shocking!! Hitting 101 avg.

BUT PART 2!!!!! Not only that, I then played my Trebles and hit another 4 Tons and took out an 85 finish, scoring 545 altogether out of 1001 for 3 of us!!! Scoring 100, 100, 60, 100, 100, 85. Hitting 90.8 avg.

BUT PART 3!!!! I then had my singles and scored nothing less than 60 and hitting another 5 Tons and 2 x 85's. Taking 31 in 2 darts for a 38 darts and a 79 average.

Altogether on the night I played a Doubles, Trebles and a Singles 1001 for a total of an 89 average!!!

An 89 average whilst playing Doubles, Trebles and Singles is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. Hell, I'd be happy with that in a Singles comp!!!

Thats impressive mate. Very well done. I managed a few high averages like that last season but couldn't manage it week in week out....theres always next season though...

I wished for that aswell but im only 24 now.. I now hope My avg could be something like that after two years of playing. I guess only time could tell

That's tremendous albeit a bit depressing for people like me who realise how much there still is to improve

Well, I don't know whether this will help or not, but this is what I've done over the 2 years to get to where I am so far:-

1) Joined Flight school!! This is still the staple of my practice regime. I still use the big numbers routine as well as I see so many players missing big singles at the vital moments. The other routines have fine tuned my accuracy and grouping so much that a lot of the time my 3 darts are within an inch radius on the board of each other. Some times I get all 3 that close together that you can't tell were one starts and the other 2 end!!

2) The Phil Taylor Routine for the Team Taylor challenge!! Again, these routines I've found to be fantastic as it gives you an all round routine. You bash the 20's, 19's and Bull, but you also bash doubles AND you also have finishing routes - 64, 82, 100, 120. Since adding this to the Flight school routines I do feel that my game has risen again!!

3) I spent some time perfecting my stance at the board and taking my time whilst shooting. I spent time working on my arm, elbow and hand position before I throw my darts and try to copy the same action every throw. If I feel that my back swing isn't right, I stop the throw and reset. I've also started to play DIDO instead of straight 501 as this gives you more practice at hitting your doubles.

I also spent a lot of time playing against people of a better standard than me. Yes I got beat a lot but it also showed me where and what I have to be achieving to get better. Now, most of those I got beat by I can beat and whereas I'm still striving to improve, they are happy with where they are at. That I feel makes a big difference to your outlook as well.

That is some great advice chris. The third is the one that I think I need to focus on. I was getting better after signing up for flight school but my throw is starting to suffer again and I'm noticing that I'm starting to mess with my motion and grip. Time to take a step back and get my basics back
