What is your favorite sound of darts meeting the board? Mine is plunk. My current configuration of 20 gram, razor grip, half inch stem, and slim flight provides a pleasant plunk. What is your favorite? Perhaps you prefer a klunk or other such. A click is the forerunner of a bounce out. Not a good sound. I think it is all in the pleasure of tossing. Any thoughts on the sound of darts?

I know exactly what you mean though. Sometimes the dart just sounds right when it enters the board, but the board has an affect on the sound too.

I have an old Winmau board from 1978 and it makes a lovely sound when the darts hit it, much more pleasant than my Bulls Advantage 2 which is a denser board.

But I think your description of "plunk" sounds about right to me!

My favourite sound is that of a dart hitting the centre bull. Don't know how to describe it but it sounds different to that on any other part of a board.

I remember years ago playing round the board, where to win you hit double, treble then two in outer or one in inner bull.

I was playing an older guy and we both needed bull to win the game, he had missed and had turned round to have a sip of his pint, I missed with my first two and put my third right dead in the centre of the bull. the guy I was playing didn't even turn around but said 'great dart', to which I said how did you know I hit the bull and he said, because I heard it.

he was an experienced player for sure and a plus 1 for the topic as well.

what alovely sound a good makes eh. Quite distinct on my setup with the new blade4. my setup is made of pine and kinda amplifies and projects the sound back at you. when i play better my darts sound better. Normally after a couple of legs me darts will land perpendicular to the board and when im throwin a grippy dart i like the zippy sound a nice group makes.
best way for me to describe the sound my darts make....the ripe watermelon. I know what your thinking.. us country folk check the ripeness of a watermelon by thumping it, and the best ones make a deeper thump. sounds just like good darts. lol

This is in the book I have written.
My sound would be described as a thud, maybe because of the velocity I achieve. but it is a fact as mentioned that every part of the dartboard produces a different sound (note). Sometimes I play in the dark more usually with an electric Night light. (parents use them to softly light a babies bedroom). You can tell exactly where your dart has landed by the sound emitting from out of the gloom. I always knew when EB was playing because of the sound of his darts piercing sisal, unique, but then again so is everyone else!

It is always a good way of practicing as you just don't rely on your eyes. For example when you've visited the board and ascertained your stance platform you should have instinctively calibrated yourself to that alignment. As long as you return to the exact same spot (which everyone automatically seems to do) there should be no problem.

Well; the perfect dart is not necessarily the one that hits the required big score. It's actually the one that you can't see! It's usually accomplished using a black stem'shaft and lands in the board at such an angle and height that it melds exactly into your eye line.

I know exactly what he was saying and I'm sure most of us do with a board we're familiar with. A friend and I often play at each others' houses, so we know the sounds our boards make. We've often done just what he did.
