Okay, let me explain. I'll start off by admitting I have never shot a 180. Now that I have embarrassed myself, allow me to elaborate. I believe that the same guy who designed the current dartboard and placed the numbers where they are is the same guy who invented the three darts to a turn rule. I've had a bunch of two T20s in my day but that third dart goes on its own way, having nothing to do with where I was trying to place it. I already know that George disagrees with this, but I'm talking about me and that's what happens to me. I know it's a tense up thing although I'm usually in the privacy of my bedroom dart land and there is no real need for tensity. Anyone else besieged with this curse? I call it the third dart syndrome. I'm really not sure if 129 was my best shot and I think I may have had a few 140s along the way. But it's all the same curse of course.

It is what it is my friend. I believe that if u can put 2 in that 3 will happen eventually. I throw 100 darts at the 20's several times a week, sounds like a lot but its about 15-20 minutes and Ive been known to do it three times in one session. I usually practice in 20min sessions because I can't keep proper concentration any longer than that and if I do longer just repeating poor technique . Hope this helps.

I feel your problem, I had the same problems for a while, but not any longer.

I got a tip from a german player that worked for me, but it's not a miraclesolution.
But its a bit of mind play, have 4 darts to throw, but only throw 3 of them, so that you always have a dart in the dog hand.

In that way you are implying to your mind that you arent throwing the last dart, and then you practice to get all three darts in the board where you want.
And even after you return to only playing with three darts, you have a ghost dart in your hand that your mind makes up.

As I said, I may not work for anyone, but that made my last dart-tension drop, and now I dont even think about the last dart.

After all, darts are almost only about the mental side of the game, if your technique are good then the only thing to work with are your head Smile

I hope that this tip works for you, and I hope you will be able to kick your inner demon out Very Happy And I hope you will hit your first 180 soon Smile Its a good buzz and its good to break the ice, then the 180s will come flying Smile

Cheers!

I also had this 3rd dart syndrome back when I was trying to hit my first 180 over 3 years ago.
I was only able to do it when thought my 2nd dart was in the treble 1 and upon closer inspection I saw that it was actually in the corner of the treble 20.
The first 180 is the hardest, after that the others come much easier.

I like Venigoor's tip, and also like x2v I found that most of my 180's (only had 19) were scored when I was not sure the previous darts were in the treble, now that tells me it is a mind thing.

My very first 180 was like that, I thought the 2nd and 3rd darts were above the wire but was amazed when I got close to the board and saw they were in the treble bed!

I have been trying to get my 20th 180 and failing on that 3rd dart often, I am sure its just a mental block causing me to fail, not sure how to overcome that but might give Glen's tip a try.

I am sure you will get your first 180 soon Garry, when I started playing a few years ago I thought I would never get one.

Good Luck
