Stick with what you know Empty
PostSubject: Stick with what you know   Stick with what you know EmptyTue Aug 07, 2012 12:16 am

Like a lot of the members on this forum and other forums, I cannot resist buying new darts, sometimes because I like the way they look, but mostly becuase I honestly think that some of them will lead to an improvement in my game. Unfortunately for me, chopping and changing has been to the detriment of my game.

Up until recently I had not played darts competively since I quit playing superleague when I moved down to Essex 8 years ago. However, I recently joined a team, so have been taking my game more seriously. However, I have not been able to find a setup that I am entirely comfortable with.

The darts that I have been most successful with is the Phil Taylor phase 1 or 2 darts, however, I have not owned a set of these since I swapped a set on here a while back.

Anyway, I had a game last week and all week had been practicing with the new Gary Anderson darts, however, about an hour before I left for my game on thursday evening, I decided they weren't right and left with my Hankeys. I lost my game 2-1 and should have won it 2-0. the guy that I played was a great player, and this was only my second game since joining the team, but I was very disappointed. I had darts at double to win, but just had no confidence in the darts I was throwing.

Anyway, I no longer own the Anderson darts, and the Hankeys are in a 1 day auction on eBay and other than these after today I will only own one set of darts, which are Dudbrige darts that I got in a swap with grip at the weekend, but they are just too short for me.

That is not the end though, as I am awaiting delivery of a set of lovely, shiny gold purists (even have some gold points to put in them at home), and cannot wait to get my paws on them. All I need now is the willpower to stick with them and stop getting distracted by other darts.

I already know taht I will be much better with them, because I have been before, and they are a great dart.

Anyway sorry if I have bored any of you, but I just thought that I would share

2 mate, best ones in my opinion 24g same as my last ones. My previous ones went in a swap with Andy from here who I think swapped/sold them with you and I think Fox has them now. They are certainly well travelled!

Really do rate them, the grip is great and they are very well balanced. I have every intention of sticking with them now!

Phase 2 Purists are a 10 outta 10 IMO good choice. So now we have Purist from 1-7 now. Phase 7 where does it stop lol.

It's nice to see someone else has the same prolem as me!!!! I've been tempted to sell all but one set of my darts. I've been bad about switching

I've done it in the past and worked on a one in one out basis, hence getting rid of my last set of purists, but soon gave up. This time I'm gonna have to stick at it if I want to get my game and consistency back.

Its only the dart upto a certain point the rest is in the head.

I dont really buy darts solely because I think I will play better with them, although some darts do feel more right than others, but I like to try the different darts anyway.

After trying so many types I am still not 100% on my preferred choice but its either a straight barrel dart or a front weighted dart that I seem to prefer. Then its just grip patterns, coatings and weights. I seem to be ok with weights around 23 and 24 grams, so tend to go for that weight mostly, but have got a few heavier and lighter sets just to experiment.

I know I dont like an aggressive Razor grip but I do like Mico/ghost grip and knurl grip.

I do believe that if you really want to improve though, you should stick with one set. Dont think I ever will but I dont mind so much I enjoy the trying of new darts! Very Happy

I don't think you're in the boat alone Danny. All of us seem to switch darts around a bit. I have my old standby's which I've been using since 2001. But I try different things all the time. Even have 2 sets on order as I type this. As you know, darts is all about consistency so it would make sense to keep playing with the 1 set of darts until you've mastered them... but I'm like you. I can't resist change.
