Does your League subscribe to it?

I know it's an unwritten rule that when you lose your Singles you buy the Winner a drink, but not everyone seems to do it. Then, what do you buy - A Pint? or just a Half?

Is that something that's US wide Larry or just your particular League?

Never heard of buying the singles winner a drink here in the US. The visiting teams are always given a free round anyway just for showing up

Well it must have been a common practice in the early days even in the U.S. because I read it in an old darts book from the 1970's by a U.S. author.

i've never seen or heard about it, but then again i don't play in a team league. there are usually lots of drinks being bought back and forth in my league though. depending on who ya play, they won't even let you buy your own round. i played one guy who bought me 3 drinks over the course of two hours and wouldn't even let me buy him one in return haha.

The league I play in in London, the LIODA league, is losing pair buys the winning pair a half pint each. The Summer league is only the losers of the final 8's game buys their opposite number a pint.

It was always an unwritten law in my neck of the woods, kept everything sociable and friendly. However I can understand its demise with the cost of drinks in the UK now. Maybe it's part of the problem with darts today. Winning is all and the sport secondary, that and listening to the wrong advice.
The marker; was usually a home team substitute (chalking every game) and biding time and waiting his chance to break into the team. was also afforded liberal pints to quaff during the match. Marking is the greatest grounding into the sport.
Then there was the ubiquitous beer leg usually paid out of the teams kitty if you lost. This was not drunk however, rather added to the Kitty for the end of year piss up and day out. Lubbly dubbly.
Do you not have subs ( weekly subscriptions) any more
I grew up in a different time and remember vividly the great evenings and Sunday lunchtime playing darts.
Oh and the standard of darts; superb!

We used to have a friendly rule that the home team would supply supper and a 2 jugs of beer for the players to share at the end of the match.

Sadly this practice has gone totally from my Wednesday night league. Monday and Tuesday leagues still do the supper at the end of the night.

All 3 of my leagues have a lot of players that play in 1 or more of the leagues, so we all know each other well and will chat for a while after the match has finished.

the home teem puts a feed on arfter the match and we have a 10$ weekly entry and with some fund raising we have a weekend away at Club Capricorn with drinks, food, accomadation, golf, nude ladys and maybe some darts Very Happy

Here we don't have that rule, but we normally just run a tab with a few bottles of vodka and beers and then just split it at the end of the night....
